MLP-STYLE PLAY FOR SIX GAME VERSION
Each match will consist of the 6 games listed below. These games are to 15, win by 2, with a cap at 18. You must win on your serve.
Mixed 1
Mixed 2
Women’s Doubles
Men’s Doubles
Mixed 3
Mixed 4
Each player will play one mixed game with each player of the opposite gender.
The Mixed gender games and the gender doubles games will be played at the same time if there are enough courts available.
The TeamBreaker will only be played if there is a tie. All 6 games will be played even if a team has already won after 4 games.
TeamBreaker (only played if there is a tie) The TeamBreaker is similar to MLP’s dream breaker, but in TeamBreaker, teams play doubles rather than singles. The order is as follows: mixed 1, mixed 2, women’s doubles, men’s doubles, mixed 3, and mixed 4, and play continues until one team reaches 21 using rally scoring. You will follow the same order and groupings that you did in the 6 match play games. Each grouping plays for 4 serves.
This TeamBreaker game is to 21 using rally scoring. Win by 2 points, with a cap at 24. You must win on your serve.
To begin a match against another team, flip the coin (shamrock or no). If you win the coin toss - you can chose:
To pick serve or receive AND the side you start on. This will be how each of the 6 games starts.
Or you can pick to “react” to the other teams mixed team (meaning they put down on the paper who is playing Mixed 1,2,3 and 4 first, then your team decides who plays against them.) With the exception of after the first 4 games, whoever is losing gets to “react” to the winning team putting out their final 2 mixed gender teams.
If you go to a TeamBreaker - you will do another coin toss for the same picks as above.
Other rules for the match:
See the rally scoring explanation to understand it and the “freeze”. When a team reaches 14 or 20 points then you follow traditional scoring for that team only, you may only earn a point when you or your team is serving. If you or your teammate commits a fault, or error while serving, it doesn’t result in a loss of point but the loss of the serve. When both teams reach 14 or 20 points, both teams follow traditional scoring.
Two time-outs per game
Switch sides when one team gets to 8 points. (or switch at 11 if playing a TeamBreaker)
Players on a team choose a side of the court to play – left or right.
Players remain on their original sides of the court and may only change sides (right or
left) after a time-out or during the side change after the first team reaches 8 (or 11) points Please let your opponents know you have switched to avoid confusion.
Gold, Silver and Bronze medals will be based on the 8 team bracket.
If there is a tie for a medal, the 2 teams will play a TeamBreaker game to 21, win by 2, cap at 24, to determine the winner.
